چکیده

CMC (critical micelle concentration) is lowest concentration when micelle was created in aqueous solution of surfactant. In this study, we collected CMC data to develop the QSPR model of gemini surfactants from literatures. Gemini surfactants are composed of two monomeric surfactant molecules linked by a spacer chain. Gemini surfactants can self-assemble at concentrations almost a hundred-fold lower than that of corresponding conventional surfactants. Also, unlike conventional surfactants, Gemini surfactants have unique properties because of the high surface tension lowering ability, good solubility for water. This study aimed to predict critical micelle concentration (CMC) of Gemini surfactant by using a quantitative structure-property relationship (QSPR) method. The CMC dataset were collected from a series of 130 Gemini surfactants. We tried to calculate each molecular descriptor using PreADMET program from Gemini surfactants substructure which subdivided in various ways. In this study, we split the structures of Gemini surfactants into two types of groups. First type, method 1 is that the structure was divided into two surfactant and spacer; connecting link between two surfactant. Second type, method 2 is that the structure was divided into ion1-spacerion2 part and two carbon chain. So, we performed three models which are composed of Method1, Method2 and undivided data model. The forward selection and bootstrap sampling method were applied to determine the optimum descriptor of the multiple linear regression (MLR). The consensus model were tried for improving the predictive power of each model. It was possible to know the applicable range of the prediction model by applicability domain (AD) of the results of each model. Y-scrambling was performed to confirm chance correlation of the model. Lastly, we compared result of the three model for finding best model. The best model was a consensus model using multiple linear regression (Data_R2external test : 0.955, Method1_R 2 external test : 0.960, Method2_R 2 external test : 0.962)

Modelling of the Critical Micelle Concentration of Cationic Gemini Surfactants Using Molecular Connectivity Indices

Modelling of the critical micelle concentrations (cmc) using the molecular connectivity indices was performed for a set of 21 cationic gemini surfactants with medium-length spacers. The obtained model contains only the second-order Kier and Hall molecular connectivity index. It is suggested that the index 2χ includes some information about flexibility. The obtained model was used to predict log...

Molecular connectivity indices for modeling the critical micelle concentration of cationic (chloride) Gemini surfactants

The molecular connectivity indices were used to derive the simple model relating the critical micelle concentration of cationic (chloride) gemini surfactants to their structure. One index was selected as the best to describe the effect of the structure of investigated compounds on critical micelle concentration consistent with the experimental results. This index encodes the information about m...

Aqueous solution properties of disulfide linked gemini and cleaved monomeric thiol surfactants.

Monomeric thiol surfactants, [C(n)H(2n+1)N(CH(3))(2)CH(2)CH(2)SH]Br, were produced by the cleavage of gemini surfactant containing a disulfide bond in the spacer chain, [C(n)H(2n+1)N(CH(3))(2)CH(2)CH(2)SSCH(2)CH(2)N(CH(3))(2)C(n)H(2n+1)]2Br. The disulfide bond was completely reduced by the addition of four times moles of dithiothreitol in water at room temperature. The critical micelle concentr...

Micelle formation and CMC of gemini surfactants: a thermodynamic model

Gemini surfactants possess a structure resembling a pair of conventional single chain surfactants covalently connected by a spacer. The spacer can vary in length and chemical structure. In this paper, the aggregation behavior of gemini surfactants is examined on the basis of a free energy model developed by extending our theory for conventional surfactants. Free energy contributions beyond thos...
